The New Color of the Year: 2017

Green is the new black, or so that's what the color Gods of Pantone are saying, by making Greenery the 2017 color of the year. Every year, The Pantone Color Institute chooses a color that is symbolic to what is going on in our global culture. According to them, “[The color] serves as an expression of a mood, an attitude” .

Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute so eloquently states, “Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the re-connection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”

A bright, cheerful, zesty green will start being thrown onto walls, into advertisements and draping around mannequin bodies everywhere. But the new color is much more than fashion. It is a direct button hitting the psychological responses that our world has been concentrating on, as we approach a new era of production and consumption. We are trying to “go-back” to nature and remind ourselves to stop looking at a screen and start gazing into the earth around us. It also symbolizes an era of saving our earth. By re-using and re-purposing materials, consuming less chemicals and genetically modified foods, we make the statement of joining together to get healthy and reduce the environmental impact that we have on our earth.

The revolution has begun...are you in?
